How to move your garden
Do you have a garden you’ve worked really hard on? Why give it up because you’re moving? Instead, move your plants with the rest of your belongings. Although most moving companies do not move plants, following the simple steps Liberty Moves has provided will help move your garden without compromising it.
Mark where everything is going first
In your new home, mark where each plant will go. Try to keep it somewhat consistent with what your previous garden looked like to help with how you remember where everything was/ is.
If you are moving in the summer months, make sure to water the area before placing your plants in the respected area. This will help them become and stay hydrated.
Special water schedules
Water your plants the night before your move, this will keep them hydrated throughout the night and the next day as you prepare for the move. Soak the roots of your plants to ensure they are also ready to move.
Some plants must have their roots soaked for two to three hours before replant. Some of these plants commonly include:
- Shrubs
- Hosta
- Daylilies
- Roses
- Fruit trees
- Prarie Onion
Replant right away!
Do not wait too long to replant your plants. This can cause your plant to either die while in the pot or if they are replanted too late. Put “Replanting Plants” at the top of your to-do list when moving into your new home.
