Don’t pack these items in your moving container
Renting a moving container for your upcoming move can be a great idea if you are trying to save on moving costs. Moving containers still typically have the same packing rules that apply as a moving company. Moving containers won’t allow items like firearms, plants, or food. Before renting a moving container, speak with a representative to find out what items are not allowed in the container. In general, moving containers are not allowed to have the following items:
Plants
Regardless of it’s indoor or outdoor status, moving containers do not allow plants in the containers. This is because states have specific guidelines of what kind of plants can be imported into the state. Plants also cannot survive without sunshine, so if you are doing a long distance move, you may want to think about a better option for them.
Hazardous Materials
Hazardous materials are labeled HAZARD for a reason. These items are potentially explosive which gives moving companies a good reason to not want them transported. A lot of these items are typically replaceable, so we recommend throwing them away and picking up some new items once moved into your new home. Hazardous Materials include:
- Fertilizer
- Paints
- Guns
- Batteries
- Gasoline
- Matches
Valuable Items
Whether it’s sentimental items or items of literal value, we don’t recommend packing them in your mvoign container. The risk of damage can cause enough fear to just pack these items in the car so you can ensure safety. Items of Value include:
- Computers
- Jewelry
- Sentimental Items
- Photo Albums
- Important Records
